Before Your Massage
Read Preparation Tips for some useful information about preparing for a massage.

Upon arriving for the first time, you'll be asked to fill out an intake form and sign off on our policies & procedures. If you want to save some time, you can print them off the website, fill them out and bring them in with you: Intake Form & Policies. We'll go over any pertinent history with you and make sure we understand your needs.

For your first appointment, plan on about 15 minutes for completing the forms & client intake discussion, and plan on about 15 minutes after the first massage for dressing, relaxing, and post-massage assessment/recommendations. We don't short-change you on your massage unless you need to leave early for some reason!

Your therapist will explain how to get positioned on the table and covered-up, then leave the room while you change out of your clothing. When massage cream is used, it is best to remove all of your clothing, however, you may be more comfortable leaving your underwear on. It is important that you are comfortable. We will uncover just the area that we are going to work on, one at a time. You should never feel over-exposed.

During Your Massage
There are things you can do that will make your massage more powerful:

  • Focus on your breath. You may come in with a million things on your mind, but if you can just take a couple minutes at the beginning of treatment to listen to your breath go in and out, your mind can begin to relax, and your body will follow.
  • Breathe into the tense areas. It helps to imagine that the area of tension is like a balloon. When you breathe in, imagine the air traveling to the sore spot, expanding and stretching it. On the exhale, completely release the air from the balloon and imagine the tension/stress melting away.
  • Communicate. We do our best to read your body language, but if you ever feel like you need anything, more or less pressure, for example, please let us know.
  • Relax & let the therapist do the work. This can be hard for type "A" personalities! Resist the temptation to "help," and just focus on being still, releasing tension from your body, and enjoying the massage...

After Your Massage
To get the most out of your session, take some time after the therapist leaves the room to just lay there and feel relaxed. Don't get up too quickly, or you may feel dizzy or light-headed. A good way to get off the table is to roll onto your side and push yourself up slowly to a seated position with your legs hanging off the edge of the table. Avoiding tension or stress after a massage will ensure the best results.

We will let you know what we observed, and may give you some self-care recommendations.

In the next few days: Pay attention to the areas that you noticed were tense during the massage: How do they feel when you are walking? Driving? Working? When you notice the tension coming back, see if you can change something to make that area feel better: Stretch it? Relax it? Change positions?

Water: Be sure to drink plently of water after a massage. We recommend 8 oz per hour you are awake for 48 hours following the massage. Massage increases circulation and puts intercellular waste products into your bloodstream, so you need adequate water to "flush" the toxins through your kidneys. If you don't drink enough water following massage, you may feel nauseous.

Tipping: If you appreciated the good work you received and are able to tip, it helps us out a lot, as this is an expensive town to live and do business in. 15-20% is pretty standard for a massage session. On the other hand, we also love a big smile and spreading the word to your family, friends, and co-workers.
